Final Reflection:

• wow factors
• I loved the digital scrapbooking I learned about in Cyndi's portaportal. I love scrapbookingbut it is extremely expensive. Through digital scrapbook I can not only save my scrapbook and do not have to worry about them being destroyed I can also make copies easier. I know one of my summer goals will be to start a summer scrapbook.
• Portaportal is anther wow factor for me, I am so forgetful and teachers need to know tons of websites. Portaportal cuts down on me physically knowing all the website, I simple have to know one. I have used this many time already for other classes.
• My last wow factor is United Streaming. There is so much information and it is a great way to integrate technology. This has helped me with numerous lesson plans in other classes.

• 6 other classmates website
• Joan- I loved Joan's podcast, it was so interactive and fun, it would definitely grab any students attention. Also her ABC is personable, student would love to know that much about their teachers. I would suggest making the website more personable, most of the pages had little to no picture. Also the Imovie was hard to hear.
  
• Ashley F- I loved Ashley's slideshow of picture, it is so personable. Also her site is set up lovely. The paper snowflake project was a great Imovie idea, students could easily make up homework if you did this. Some suggestions would be to make sure students could navigate this site.
• Roger- I loved the abc book, great for little boys to get interested in reading. Also his website is easy to navigate. The picture was hard to see, and not very teacherish, also I would like to see how this reflects more teacher items.
• Nikki- Nikki's website is gorgeous, I can tell she spent lots of time making it personal and a reflection of her. I love how many pictures she placed up. Also her imovie is great for children. I would suggest making the tabs on each page, instead you have to go home to go to another tab. I loved this website.
• Kayla J- Kayla's website was the best reprentation of what a teacher's website would be. She made it personable but kept it perfessional. I would suggest making tab accessible on each page again. This is hard for most students. Also her podcast was not working.
• Karrie- Karrie's website was great. Very colorful and appealing to students. I would suggest making tab accessible on each page again. This is hard for most students. Also her podcast was not working.

• I loved how colorful and easy to work my website is. I like how even page is different it all ties together with strips and buttons. I would like to make more teacher "mock information" so employers would get a more indepth information. I would like to retape the Sternberg movie and get a clearer better sound.
  

Week 17 articles

The One-to-One Tsunami: I believe these sites are extremely important to keep up on. As a future teacher I need to know what any school might expect of me. One-on-one programs seem like they will not be going away with laptops becoming widely used in most schools.

Blogs Are Not the Enemy: I have never felt like blogs are the enemy, although I do know teachers who fear them. I have done mini-teaches that use blogs. Also I believe the direct communication with parents would be excellent. Blogs are a great tool to use in the classroom.

When digital kids rule the classroom: what a great idea, taking tec-savvy students and allowing them to teach teachers. The gives the students a sense of the importance of knowledge while also letting the students learn. The best way to understand a subject is to teach it

Article Reflections Week 10-15:

Democrats propose N.O. teacher incentives: This article was very informative as to the many options that teachers can receive. Even thought this was specifically for Hurrican Katrina area teachers would be amazed at all the other amazing benefits if they settle in particular areas.

U.S.-born don't learn the language easily: This article was alarming to me! I had no idea 1 out of 5 students reported to not speak English “well” are US born. This proves that teachers need to push higher vocabulary in their classes. I believe most students learn English by being around it. A teacher must represent this at all time.

Short Articles:

Accelerate reading achievement and raise test scores in your classroom! :I love the internets accessibility to free kits. I was doing some research on the water cycle and found one. One draw back is how long it takes to receive the information. This proves a teacher needs to think about all activities months in advance!

Survey: Schools should integrate more technology and Montreal district to focus on tech training: I believe that teachers need to be introduced to technology. I am happy to say that I think Hays has done a wonderful job teaching students and teachers how to properly implement technology into their lives. Technology is such a useful tool if used right. I have helped out at many schools that I have felt lacking in this area.

A Digital Decade: This article brought up good points such as, if students do not have access to the internet they will fall behind and by using technology you can this of bigger, fun ways to intergrade subjects into your classroom, but I feel one of the biggest reasons technology is still falling behind is the fear most teachers have of a computer.

More students getting laptops instead of textbooks: I believe ever future teacher needs to pay attention to this article. Eventually textbooks will be obsolete. I am excited to say I love this idea. Students will not have to lug around books, and even more activities will be easy to access. If nothing else think of all the trees that will be saved.

Ruling: Student rights extend to MySpace postings: I am not sure which way I would have gone on this ruling since I understand the safety of the teachers but the rights as a student to have an opinion. I believe I would have to rule freedom of speech, I think the bigger question is why she feels that way about her principal.

Study eyes effect of tech on classroom: This story was interesting. I believe technology usage should not drive test scores but how well the teachers are teaching.

Video helps overhaul district's curriculum: As a future teacher I love this idea. Like a United Streaming but with more websites. I think something important to remember is to utilize these programs but to not let them be the teacher!

The Marshal Of MySpace: This is a scary subject for anyone to talk about. I am happy to also know they are offering online etiquettes, what a great idea to teach younger students about. We teacher manners to younger grades why not internet etiquettes. I agree the only way to teach students about the danger is educate them!

If wired right, computers do belong in classrooms: I have seen the effect computers, and other technology has on classrooms and I know they belong in classroom. In one of my classrooms we had a discussion about if technology is good for socialization. I would like to know more information on that.

It was interesting to hear what the founder of Wikipedia had to say about the online encyclopedia. It was neat to see how it works properly. It was interesting to see what it takes to make a monumental site such as Wikipedia come to life. It also showed just how free it really is and how anyone can just edit it as they see fit. The only peer review is done by volunteers. But it such a neat technology and one that is definitely engrained in our current society.

It is hard to believe that only 4 people have ever made that journey, but it shows just how difficult it really is. It was neat to hear his story and how podcasting made it easily available to everyone to hear. It really does make the world a smaller place and it allows for people to have access to information they normally would not have had access to.

It almost is mind boggling to think that such a minute entity could hurt so many people. Geek!ED! is an interesting show that seems to take a fun spin on podcasting. It is relaxed and easy going which makes it one of the more interesting podcasts. This was the first time I heard the word podcasting referred to as netcasting. It raises a very good point that people refer to podcasting as something you have to do with an iPod, but in all actuality it can be done on desktops or countless other media playing devices. This makes you realize that podcasting has now been branded by a corporate title rather then what it really is, a free enterprise everyone can partake in that doesn’t need an iPod.

This podcast explained how to make a video podcast out of Photo Story, a Windows program. I don’t know of many podcast programs for Windows so this was truly interesting. I liked the tips presented in this podcast, how to make a video podcast using this program, and I especially enjoyed the program discussed afterwards that allowed us to change the podcast into a format that we could use. Very insightful and will definitely be remembered for future video podcast production.

It seems pretty ingenious to just have multipul people phone in and allow some one to easily acces the information in a usable format. This is an excellent idea for those who are nervous making podcasts, but have no problem talking on the phone. Also it makes coordination so much easily if you have many people needing to contribute to a podcast. Very good idea.

It is a neat idea for students who want to do a podcast, but are deaf. It is also cool because it could have potential with individual who are blind. I personally thought it was a neat program and one that seems to have a lot of potential in both the blogging and podcast worlds.

That would have been nice to have on the day I gave my presentations. I think this is a goog blog to squash teachers fear of technology.

Reflection: Dan Schmit talked to teachers about how to approach administrators about implementing podcast and technology into our curriculum. It is hard to talk about the cost of such things so a podcast about getting podcast is a great idea. It was helpful and as Schmit said most of it is just a start up cost. If we are smart and buy little bits each year we can have a classroom full of technology in no time.

Reflection: I decided to do a good search of educational podcast and stumble on the educational podcst network. All the podcast broke down into sections for easy access. I loved Williamsburg and decided to listen to this one. It had actors acting out as if they lived in that time period. It was an amazing podcast. I especially loved how well they stayed into character. This would be invaluable in a classroom for motivating a student to listen.

Reflection: Sir Ken Robinson was a funny guy who brings humor to a serious problem. When Ken Robinson said that teachers have to educate their students until they retire and we do not even know how the world will be like in five years he was right. By teaching them how to be wrong throughout life we teach them to deal with rolling with the punches instead of teaching them how the world will work by then. Ken Robinson made a good point about other types of learning besides book learning. This is a great thing to remember when teaching. Academic inflation was a thought that scares me personally. I have noticed that my other college friends have had trouble finding jobs with their new BA. They are all coming back a year later to obtain a MA.

I enjoy how you can either download in audio or video. This is great for teachers who have students who learn in many ways. They can do both for a student for a great punch. So students who need to just dance can.

Reflection: It was interesting to see the various projects that teachers were able to have their students make using various digital media software. I agree with the one teacher who stated that using technology, especially software, helps students to problem solve. I definitely see that in myself as I learn more about the different programs that are available. These projects are excellent samples for teachers who need to find some way to incorporate more interesting technology projects into their classroom.

Reflection: I personally enjoy forums. I think that they are an excellent way to exchange ideas and to allow the easy flow of information. I also liked the website that was included in this podcast for Kid Vid. It has a lot of great tools and templates that can be used to teach kids of a large variety of ages what it takes to create their own video. It is truly helpful for a teacher if they are looking for ideas or tools to use in their classroom to make sure that a lesson over creating a video is successful.
